Ikeda, Emigh earn All-West Region honors

Pair helped lead Wildcats to history-making season

The Chico State women's soccer team leaned heavily on its defense while putting together a history-making season in 2018. Wednesday two of anchors of that defense—defender Jamie Ikeda and defensive holding midfielder Sarah Emigh—were named to the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association Women's Soccer All-West Region Team.

Both were named Second Team All-West Region for the first times in their collegiate careers.

The pair helped the Wildcats set numerous records this season. The team's 12 goals allowed matches the program record for fewest in a single season (tying the 2007 club). The team's two losses are the fewest by a Chico State team (the previous low was four). And their 13-match unbeaten streak to start the season is the longest such run in school history.

Ikeda, a senior from Saratoga (Prospect High School) spent her first three seasons with the Wildcats as a midfielder. But she stepped into a starting role on the back line as a senior and made the transition look easy while starting all 18 matches and ranking third on the team in minutes played.

An Academic All-America nominee, Ikeda was also named First Team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association and CCAA Tournament All-Tournament team.

Only a sophomore, Emigh, made a huge impact on the team. The product of Martinez (Alhambra High School) started all 18 matches, notched a goal and assist, and logged the second most minutes on the team.

An Academic All-America nominee, like Ikeda, Emigh was named the CCAA Women's Soccer Championship Scholar (for compiling the highest grade-point average among all student-athletes advancing to the CCAA Tournament semifinals), along with First Team All-CCAA.

Ikeda and Emigh helped the Wildcats post nine shutouts in their 18 matches.
