First place on the line Friday night!

Wildcats host Sonoma State and Humboldt State this weekend

The battle for first place atop the California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer standings takes place Friday at 7 p.m. at University Soccer Stadium when Chico State hosts 25th-ranked Sonoma State.

Chico State, 6-0-4 overall, is currently second in the CCAA standings at 5-0-1, but has two games in hand against Sonoma State (8-1-3, 6-1-1 CCAA). With a win, the Wildcats can take over sole possession of first place. A win or tie would net the Wildcats a new school record for consecutive matches without a loss at a dozen.

Chico State will wrap up the weekend at home against Humboldt State Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.

Wildcats News
Chico State is unbeaten in its last 19 home matches (12-0-7)—a school record—having not lost at University Soccer Stadium since Oct. 2, 2016.

The Wildcats last played in Chico on Sept. 16 and beat Cal State Dominguez Hills 2-1. They followed that with four straight wins on the road. They return home, where they will play four of their final six matches of the regular season, three shy of the school record for consecutive victories, set in 2005.Chico State Women's Soccer Player Paige Slusarek

The Wildcats last won six in a row in 2014.

For the third consecutive week, the Wildcats are among teams "also receiving votes" in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll. They are currently ranked No. 5 in the West.

Scouting the Opponents
Sonoma State (8-1-3, 6-1-1 CCAA)—The last team to beat Chico State in the regular season (3-0 last season in Rohnert Park), the Seawolves are ranked No. 4 in the West Region and No. 25 in the nation.

Third-place UC San Diego handed Sonoma State its only loss of the season on Sept. 28 in La Jolla. The Seawolves have won three in a row since.

Riley West ranks second in the CCAA with four assists, and Molly Murphy is fourth in goals with four. Goalkeeper Krista Spear's 0.49 goals-against average ranks second in the CCAA.

While a win Friday would extend a number of impressive streaks for the Wildcats, it would also put an end to a frustrating one. They are 0-6-1 against Sonoma State since last beating the Seawolves on Oct. 30, 2011. During that stretch, they are 0-2-1 at home. Their last home win against the Seawolves came on Sept. 9, 2011.

Sonoma State leads the all-time series 42-12-10.

Humboldt State (4-7-1, 2-6-0 CCAA)—The Lumberjacks got off to a promising start at 2-1-1 before losing six of their next seven. However, they are coming off a 3-1 win against Cal Poly Pomona last Sunday in which they scored three times in the final 32 minutes to come from behind.

Alex Jenkins is the lone Lumberjack with multiple goals, having scored seven of their 12 this season.

Chico State leads the all-time series 17-9-5. The Wildcats have won the last six meetings and are unbeaten in the last nine. Humboldt State's last beat Chico State at home on on Oct. 20, 2006.
