The Chico State women's soccer team boasts a 5-0 record at home this season and has gone unbeaten in its last nine home matches dating back to last season. While that is certainly an impressive run, it pales in comparison to this: The Wildcats recently received the United Soccer Coaches College Women's Team Academic Award for the fifth straight season and eighth time in the past nine years for their work in the classroom in 2016–17.
 
To qualify for the award, a team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). 
 
The Wildcats were honored with the University Foundation Board of Governors Award for Academic Excellence for the fourth year in a row this summer after posting the highest GPA among the department's six women's teams.
 
They've also been impressive on the home pitch at University Soccer Stadium, outscoring the opposition 10–2 this season and 20–6 while going 8-0-1 in their lasts nine matches there.
 
Despite that home success and their No. 9 ranking in the West Region, the 6-5-0 Wildcats are currently on the outside looking in when it comes to the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament picture. They take a conference mark of 2-4-0 into the weekend.
 
The Wildcats are hoping to flip that script with four straight matches at home over a 10-day span beginning Friday. But it won't be an easy task.
 
Cal Poly Pomona, ranked No. 4 in the West region, brings a record of 9-3-1 (5-2-1 in the CCAA) into Friday's 7 p.m. match. Cal State San Bernardino, which faces Stanislaus State Friday, is 6-6-1 overall and 4-4-0 in the CCAA.
