The Chico State women's soccer team will play six of its last eight regular season matches at home. A strong showing in Southern California this weekend could set the Wildcats up for nicely for a push toward the postseason.
Chico State, 4-2-1 overall and ranked No. 5 in the West Region, had its first two hiccups of the 2016 season with losses at San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay last weekend. But the Wildcats have outshot their opponents 129-50 and outscored them 11-4. Their defense has been outstanding and their offense can be dynamic.
They'll need to play well in all facets to get a pair of wins this weekend. They are at Cal State San Marcos Friday at 12:30 p.m. and UC San Diego Sunday at 2 p.m.
UC San Diego, which beat Cal State San Marcos 4-0 in the CCAA opener for both teams Wednesday, is off to a 5-2-0 start and ranked No. 2 in the West and No. 11 in the nation.
Cal State San Marcos is 2-1-3 overall.
The Wildcats' rare struggles this season have all come on the road. They are 1-2-1 away from home. But if they can get some good results this weekend, they will only have to leave the friendly confines of Chico one more time this season.
