’Cats looking to climb another mountain this weekend

Wildcats host two top-20 teams this weekend in Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills

Know that feeling when you think you've reached the top of the mountain, but when you get there, it rises higher in the distance? The Chico State men's soccer team does. The Wildcats learn that lesson in their preseason mountain camp. The Wildcats also know the feeling because of what transpired last weekend and what's waiting for them Friday and Sunday.

A weekend after knocking off the top two teams in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) standings, the Wildcats will now host two of the top 20 teams in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America national rankings.

No. 13 Cal State L.A. will be in town for a 4:30 p.m. match on Friday. No. 20 Cal State Dominguez Hills will visit Sunday morning at 11:30.

Chico State, 3-4-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the CCAA, has already knocked off two teams ranked in the top 20 at home this season. They beat then No. 11 Seattle Pacific 3-2 on Sept. 3, and then knocked off then-No. 20 Cal Poly Pomona 1-0 on Sunday.

Fans who can't make it out to University Soccer Stadium can follow the action via streaming video and livestats. Links to both are available in the calendar section of the athletics department homepage (www.chicowildcats.com) and on the women's soccer schedule page.

Cal State L.A. is 6-1-3 overall and second in the CCAA with a conference mark of 4-1-0 after beating Cal State Dominguez Hills 2-0 on Wednesday.

The Toros are tied for second with the Golden Eagles at 4-1-0 in conference action. They are 7-3-1 overall, but just 1-2-0 away from home.

Chico State is coming off a weekend in which three different Wildcats scored, all coming on assists from reigning CCAA Player of the Week Alex Fluitt. They've also got a streak of two straight shutouts going.
