Final postseason push this weekend for men’s soccer

Seniors Dargan, Nuño and DeLane to be honored prior to Sunday’s match

Excitement and anticipation surrounding a possible Chico State men's soccer postseason berth has been building as the Wildcats have reeled off big win after big win in the second half of the season. The weekend, the Wildcats will try to finish with two more big wins.

At 6-5-3 overall and 5-3-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) after winning three straight and five of its last six matches, Chico State wraps up the regular season at home against Sonoma State Friday and Humboldt State Sunday.

The Wildcats are currently in third place in the CCAA standings with 17 points, but 11 of the 13 conference teams will have two matches remaining after this weekend. Six teams will make the CCAA Tournament. Teams receive three points for each conference win and one for each tie. So Chico State will be forced to watch the final postseason picture unfold from home.

For now, that picture is still very murky. But what is clear is that two more wins this weekend would certainly give the Wildcats a strong chance to keep their season alive.

Long-time rival Sonoma State currently leads the CCAA with 20 points at 7-2-5 overall and 6-1-2 in the CCAA following a 3-0 win against Humboldt State Wednesday afternoon. Friday's match kicks off at 4:30.

Prior to Sunday's 11:30 a.m. kickoff against Humboldt State (3-8-2, 1-7-2 CCAA), Chico State's three seniors–Isaiah Dargan, Omar Nuño, and Rajaee DeLane–will be celebrated.

Fans who can't make it out to University Soccer Stadium can keep track of the action via livestats and streaming video. Links are in the calendar section on the homepage and men's soccer schedule page.
