Smarty ’Cats commence conference play this weekend

Women’s soccer team travels to Humboldt State Friday, Sonoma State Sunday

The first few weeks of the season have been chalked full of solid results for the Chico State women's soccer team. The Wildcats finished up the non-conference portion of their schedule with a record of 4-1-1 and ranked No. 5 in the West Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. And Wednesday, the program was awarded the NSCAA 2014-15 Team Academic Award, presented to teams with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

The Wildcats will look to continue the trend of good news when they open California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play at Humboldt State Friday at 12:30 p.m. and Sonoma State Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

The last team in the conference to start its conference slate, Chico State has a chance to make a statement out of the gates. Sonoma State (4-1-2 overall) currently leads the CCAA with a record of 2-0-1 and Humboldt State, 5-3 overall, is 2-1 in the CCAA.

The Wildcats were picked to finish fifth in the CCAA in the annual Preseason Coaches Poll. Last season they finished second with a record of 8-2-1 in conference action.
