Women’s soccer welcomes Cal Baptist, Dominican

Both matches scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

If the Chico State women's soccer team's first two home matches were any indication, it's going to be an entertaining season at University Soccer Stadium. The Wildcats continue their home campaign this Thursday and Saturday when California Baptist and Dominican University of California visit. Both matches are scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m.

Chico State is 2-1-1 after an exciting but scoreless draw against Concordia-Portland and thrilling 3-2 win against Dixie State to open the home slate last weekend.

Jojo Smyth and the Chico State defense have
limited the opposition to just 3 goals in 5 matches.
Chico State's defense had allowed only one goal before Dixie State scored twice to tie Saturday night's match. True freshman Carlie Reader, who leads the Wildcats with two goals and two assists, scored the match-winner, a bolt from the top of the box, with just 6:52 to play.

The Wildcats, No. 6 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America West Region rankings, are fourth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in goals against average (0.71) and fifth in goals per match (1.3).

Reader and Pooja Patel are tied for eighth in the CCAA with two goals and Reader ranks sixth with a pair of assists. Freshman goalkeeper Mackenzie Boulton boasts the fourth lowest goals-against percentage and her two shutouts are second in the CCAA.

California Baptist is coming off an 11-4-3 season, but has struggled early in 2015, starting just 0-3-1. The Lancers' three losses have all been by a single goal, however.

The Wildcats and Lancers played a classic match the last time they met in Chico, with the Wildcats rallying from a two-goal deficit to win 3-2 in overtime. Last season, Cal Baptist beat the Wildcats 2-0 in Riverside.

Dominican is 0-2-1 heading into Tuesday afternoon's match at San Francisco State. The Wildcats are 3-0-0 all-time against the Penguins, including wins of 2-0 last season and 3-0 in 2012. Current Wildcats Nicole Roberts and Katie Brown notched an assist apiece in last's season's victory.
