The addition of a 13
th team – Cal State San Marcos – to the California Collegiate Athletic Association made it a challenging offseason for the conference schedule makers. When the ink dried, for the first time, the Chico State men's team had just one game against Stanislaus State on its slate. The teams have played at least twice every year since they first met during the 1968-69 season.
Chico State Head Coach Greg Clink and his counterpart from Stanislaus State, Larry Reynolds, remedied the situation by scheduling a non-conference matchup between the teams. That game is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Turlock.
It will mark the final non-conference game of the regular season for the Wildcats, who are 7-1 overall and 5-0 away from home.
The Warriors (3-3 this season) and Wildcats are part of a five-way tie for first place atop the CCAA standings at 2-0 in conference play.
Chico State leads the all-time series against Stanislaus 52-44, but neither team has swept the series since the Wildcats did in 2010-11.
Chico State will resume conference play with its CCAA home opener Saturday against Cal State San Marcos (4-3, 2-0 CCAA). It will mark the first meeting between the programs.
Every Chico State basketball game this season will be broadcast locally on Newstalk 1290 KPAY-AM. Links to streaming audio, video and live stats are available in the calendar section on the ChicoWildcats.com homepage and on the men's basketball schedule page.
