Wildcats Unable to Overcome a Solid Saints Squad

CHICO, Calif. – Despite a 41-point second half and a career night from Jeremiah Dargan, the Chico State men's basketball team fell 81–64 to visiting Saint Martin's on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025, at Acker Gym. The loss drops the Wildcats to 1–3 on the season, while the Saints improve to 5–2. Chico State will open up the CCAA schedule next Thursday against the Bobcats of UC Merced, tip-off is at 7:30 pm in Art Acker Gym.

How it happened

Saint Martin's jumped out early behind its transition game, scoring 14 fast-break points in the first half and taking a 39–23 lead into the break. Chico State struggled to find rhythm offensively, shooting 9–25 from the field while committing eight turnovers in the opening period.

The Wildcats responded with far more energy after halftime, putting up 41 points and knocking down four 3-pointers. Jeremish Dargan caught fire, scoring 16 second-half points, while Chris Holley and Amon Andrews added strong attacking possessions to help cut the deficit to single digits midway through the half. Dargan recording a career-high 25 points, scoring contested buckets and making strong drives at the basket, driving the 'Cats second-half charge.

Lackluster free-throw shooting solidified the Saints advantage, with the Wildcats shooting 11-21 from the line while the visitors only forfeited four shots at the line.

Unfortunately, the visitors defense was tight as each Chico State push was answered immediately by the Saints, who shot 31-for-71 (44%) for the game and dominated the paint with 48 points inside. A late 9–0 Saint Martin's run sealed the result.

The Wildcats generated 24 points in the paint and produced 12 second-chance points, but Saint Martin's used 25 fast-break points and a 48–24 advantage inside to control the afternoon. Chico State's bench contributed 19 points, including key sparks from Andrews, Walters, and Kjellesvig.
