Women's Soccer By Luke Reid - Sports Information Director (lreid@csuchico.edu)

Second-half dash starts this weekend

With games in hand, women’s soccer team hopes to start making up ground

The first half of the California Collegiate Athletic Association schedule was full of ups and downs for the Chico State women's soccer team. The second half is sure to be full of drama.

That drama begins this weekend when the Wildcats play their last two regular-season road games: At Cal Poly Pomona Friday at 4:30 and at Cal State San Bernardino Sunday at 2 p.m.

With six matches remaining, Chico State (7-3-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the CCAA) is in the middle of an 11-team mad dash for the conference's six postseason tournament berths.

Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State L.A., and UC San Diego are tied for third with 13 points; Cal State San Marcos, which is not eligible for the postseason tournament since it is still in the process of becoming a full-fledged member of Division II, is in sixth place with 11 points. And Chico State, Humboldt State, and Cal State San Bernardino – all tied for seventh – have 10 points apiece.

It should be noted that the Wildcats, first-place Sonoma State, and Humboldt State have only played six matches thus far. With the exception of Sonoma State, every team ahead of the Wildcats in the standings has played seven or eight matches.

Cal Poly Pomona is 7-3-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the CCAA. Cal State San Bernardino is 3-5-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the CCAA.
