Life on the road in the California Collegiate Athletic Association is challenging. Just ask any member of the Chico State men's soccer team. The Wildcats, 4-5-2 this season, have played eight of their first 11 matches on the road.
Â
The team will play two more road games this weekend – Friday at 7 p.m. at Cal Poly Pomona and Sunday at 11:30 p.m. at Cal State San Bernardino – before returning to University Soccer Stadium for its final four regular season matches.
But Chico State hopes its traveling ways are far from over.
Â
The Wildcats hope their results in these final six matches will help earn them a CCAA Championship Tournament berth and any road trips that might come with it.
Â
Chico State is currently 2-3-1 in CCAA play and tied for eighth place in the conference standings with seven points. The top six teams at the end of the regular season will advance to the CCAA Championship Tournament.
Â
With just six matches played, the Wildcats have one or two in hand versus each of the seven teams above them in the standings.
Â
Friday's opponent, Cal Poly Pomona, is 7-1-3 overall and 4-1-2 in the CCAA. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America ranks the Broncos No. 22 in the nation and No. 3 in the West.
Cal State San Bernardino is 3-5-3 overall and 1-3-3 in the CCAA.
