Three early goals net women’s soccer team easy win

Sutton ties Russ on career wins list with 186th

Box Score The Chico State women's soccer team was hot early, scoring three goals in the opening 15 minutes, and then played out the string on a very hot day in a 3-1 victory against Saint Martin's Sunday at University Soccer Stadium.
 
The Wildcats improved to 2-0 at home and 2-1-1 overall while netting Head Coach Kim Sutton her 186th career win, tying her with the only other coach in Chico State women's soccer history – Bob Russ – for 31st in NCAA Division II history.

Chico State took the lead in the ninth minute when Nicole Roberts' corner kick deflected off a Saint Martin's defender and into the goal.
 
Lindsey Dias made it a 2-0 lead in the 13th minute with a blast from 10 yards out, set up beautifully by Katie Brown, She dribbled to the end line, got around a defender, and dropped a pass back out to Dias with only the goalkeeper to beat.
 
It was 3-0 less than two minutes later. Roberts hit a precision blast into the top shelf from 18 yards out, assisted by Megan Tabler.
 
The Wildcats are back in action Friday for a 2 p.m. match at Dominican University. They return home to close out the non-conference portion of their slate next Sunday at 1 p.m. against Cal State Stanislaus.
