Wildcats fall out of first

Allow two goals for first time this season

Box Score The Chico State men's soccer team started Friday's match at Cal State L.A. on fire. The Wildcats peppered the Golden Eagles' goal with seven shots and a corner kick in the opening 13-plus minutes. But the Wildcats failed to find the back of the net and the fire quickly fizzled.

Chico State managed just three more shots in the last 74 minutes, and two-time defending California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) South Division champion Cal State L.A. struck for two goals in a two-minute span early in the second half on the way to a 2-0 win.

The Wildcats fell to 5-2-0 overall and out of first place in the CCAA South Division at 3-2-0. Cal State L.A. improved to  5-1-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the CCAA.

James Stroud made seven saves for the Wildcats, but allowed two goals in a match for the first time this season.

The Wildcats will be back in action Sunday when they face 14th-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills at 2 p.m.
