Box Score Chico State goalkeeper Brianna Furner made six saves to help the Wildcats keep their match against Cal Poly Pomona scoreless Sunday at University Soccer Stadium before Alison Sauve stuck home her third try in seven seconds to lift the Broncos to a 1-0 overtime victory in the 93rd minute.
Sauve sent a hard shot off a defender, headed the deflection that Furner reached out to push off the post, and then smashed the rebound into the open net to send the Broncos home with a win.
Chico State fell to 3-2-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with the loss, while Cal Poly Pomona improved to 4-2-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the CCAA.
The Wildcats played beyond regulation for the second time in three days and simply didn't display the legs they did in Friday's 2-2 draw with UC San Diego. They were outshot 13-7 and Cal Poly Pomona earned a 9-6 edge in corner kicks.
Chico State had two solid scoring chances, but Broncos goalkeeper Alex Abbott turned away Gail Bassett's second-half header and then Katie Brown's blast late in regulation.
The Wildcats will now play five of their next six matches on the road, beginning with a trip to Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills next Friday and Sunday, respectively. They'll take on Cal State San Bernardino on Oct. 4, prior to playing three more road games in a row.
