Women’s soccer playing top-25 team for 2nd time in 6 days

Hosting No. 23 UCSD Friday, Cal Poly Pomona Sunday

Many coaches would call playing two top-25 teams in six days unlucky schedule. Chico State Head Coach Kim Sutton: life in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

The Wildcats – 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the CCAA – host 23rd-ranked UC San Diego Friday night at 7, just six days after playing 10th-ranked Cal State Stanislaus.

The Wildcats lost 2-0 in Turlock, but held the Warriors to season lows in goals and shots. They'll need to play even better to snap the Tritons' 28-match unbeaten streak in regular-season road matches.

UC San Diego, which lost in the NCAA Championship match last season, enters Sunday's action with an overall record of  3-1 and 2-0 mark in the CCAA.

"If you can survive a CCAA schedule, you can survive a Final Four," says Sutton. "That's the beauty and the challenge of being a part of this conference."

Chico State, ranked No. 6 in the West Region, will get right back to it on Sunday when it plays host to another very good team in West No. 7 Cal Poly Pomona (3-1 overall and 1-1 in the CCAA).

Chico State's Carly Singer and Scotie Walker enter the weekend among eight athletes tied for the conference lead in assists with three. Walker's three goals are the sixth most in the CCAA and Megan Tabler ranks ninth with a pair of tallies.
