Box Score The Chico State women's soccer team fans grew to know and love over the first few weekends of the season reappeared Sunday. Lindsay Dias scored her first collegiate goal and Courtlyn Cerrito gave the Wildcats some insurance in a 2-0 win against Humboldt State at University Soccer Stadium.
The Wildcats outshot the Lumberjacks 23-3 and earned a 9-1 edge in corner kicks in a dominating performance.
The Chico State defense allowed only one shot on goal, and that was easily corralled by goalkeeper Brianna Furner, who earned her 16th career shutout to move into third in Chico State history.
After peppering the Lumberjacks goal with six shots and two corners in the first 16 minutes, Chico State broke the seal. Danielle Leiva hit a corner kick to the back post that Megan Tabler headed back across toward the mouth of the goal. Dias gave it the final push home for a 1-0 lead 18:26 into the match.
The Wildcats put the match away after Humboldt State attempted to exert its will physically and collected a trio of yellow cards in the process.
Halima Abdelshife intercepted a clearance attempt after the Wildcats had earned a free kick and quickly chipped it back into the mix. The Humboldt State goalkeeper couldn't corrall it cleanly with Cerrito breathing down her neck, and when it bounced free, Cerrito was there to pounce and pound it into the open net in the 74th minute.
The Wildcats improved to 5-7-2 overall and 3-7-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with the win.
