Box Score POMONA – Despite leading for nearly the entire match, the hard-luck Chico State women's soccer team settled for a 1-1 draw at Cal Poly Pomona Friday night.
Carly Singer put the Wildcats on top with a sixth-minute strike and they enjoyed that lead for exactly 84 minutes before the Broncos scored the equalizer with 59 seconds left in regulation.
Chico State's fate could have been worse but for Brianna Furner's save of a penalty kick in the 106th minute. It was Furner's sixth save of the night.
Singer's second goal of the season came after the Broncos tried to clear Megan Tabler's corner kick with a header that fell to Singer's feet. The senior buried it inside the far post.
Chico State nearly held off the hard-charging Broncos, who peppered the Wildcats with 13 second-half shots. Two of those were saved and another banged off the crossbar just 21 seconds before Lauren Miller headed home the tying goal following a throw-in that was deflected into the box.
Chico State is now 4-5-2 on the season and 2-5-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Cal Poly Pomona is 5-3-3 overall and 3-3-3 in the CCAA.
The Wildcats are back in action Sunday at UC San Diego. Match time is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
