Wildcats fall in overtime

Singer moves into 10th on career assists list

Box Score ARCATA – The Chico State women’s soccer team ended its first road trip of the season in frustrating fashion, falling 2-1 in overtime at Humboldt State Sunday. Gail Bassett scored the equalizer for the Wildcats in the 73rd minute, heading home Carly Singer’s cross. But the host Lumberjacks scored the golden goal in the seventh minute of overtime to send the Wildcats home winless for the weekend.

Chico State fell to 4-4 while Humboldt State won for the first time this season in four tries.

Bassett, a defender, moved into a tie for the team lead with her third goal of the season. Singer’s assist was her team-high fourth of the year. Another of the team’s defenders, Singer is now tied for 10th in Chico State history with 12 career assists.

Humboldt State took the lead in the 20th minute when Terri Tigert possessed a failed defensive clearance and laid a pass off to Colette Behen, who blasted a shot into the far left netting.

The Lumberjacks won the match with a quick restart following a Chico State foul. Carly Kolpin caught the defense on its heels with a quick pass to Savannah Havranek, who crossed to Maddi Null who was wide open in front of the goal for the finish.

The Wildcats finished the match with an 18-14 advantage in shots and cracked eight on frame, but Lumberjacks goalkeeper Amber Woolcock made eight saves. Brianna Furner finished with six saves in goal for the Wildcats.

Chico State is back in action at home this weekend when the Wildcats host CCAA North Division rivals Cal State Stanislaus and Sonoma State Friday and Sunday, respectively.
