The Chico State women’s soccer team is heading south this weekend with visions of keeping its 2012 season from going the same direction. The Wildcats will play at Cal State East Bay Friday night at 7 p.m. and Cal State Monterey Bay Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
The Wildcats (4-6 overall and 2-5 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association) have lost each of their last four matches and five of their last six by a single goal. That run began with a 2-1 overtime loss at home against Cal State Monterey Bay on Sept. 14. They bounced back to beat Cal State East Bay 1-0 two days later, but having found the win column since.
The Wildcats’ lack of offense has been the main culprit. They haven’t found the back of the net since the 73rd minute of their match at Humboldt State on Sept. 23 and they’ve tallied just twice in their last four outings.
That could change this weekend, however. The Wildcats mustered 13 shots in their previous meeting against Cal State Monterey Bay and 19 last time out against Cal State East Bay. And both of this week’s opponents rank in the bottom half of the league standings in goals allowed.
Cal State East Bay enters the weekend 4-4-1 overall and 3-4-0 in the CCAA. Cal State Monterey Bay, which hosts Cal State Stanislaus Friday, enters the weekend 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the CCAA.
