Box Score BOX SCORE LA JOLLA – The Chico State men’s soccer team played to a scoreless tie at UC San Diego Sunday to stretch its unbeaten streak to 11 and tie the 1989 team for the fifth longest such streak in the program’s history.
The Wildcats, who clinched a berth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship Tournament with Friday’s win, improved to 9-2-4 overall and 8-1-4 in the CCAA. UC San Diego is now 8-4-3 overall and 7-3-3 in the CCAA.
Goalkeeper Sam Evans made three saves to earn his eighth shutout of the season and the 17th of his career, drawing to within five clean sheets of the Chico State record.
Chico State outshot UC San Diego 14-8.
The Wildcats will play their final regular season match Friday at Cal State Stanislaus. The CCAA North Division-leading Wildcats have a five-point edge on the second-place Warriors heading into the match. But Cal State Stanislaus will also play Sunday.
So with a win or a tie Friday, the Wildcats will clinch their third consecutive North Division title. Otherwise, they’ll be forced to wait until Sunday’s Cal State Stanislaus-Sonoma State showdown to learn their fate.
