The Chico State women’s soccer team hopes to keep one streak intact while putting an end to another when it opens California Collegaite Athletic Association (CCAA) play this weekend. Friday, the Wildcats travel to Cal State Monterey Bay, a team they are 8-0 against all time, for a 12:30 PM match. Sunday the Wildcats play at San Francisco State at 2 PM. They are 0-2-2 in their last four matches against the Gators.
These key CCAA North Division showdowns follow a 1-1-0 non-conference slate for the Wildcats in which they lost a heartbreaker to Western Washington 2-1 in overtime before rebounding to defeat Central Washington 2-1 two days later.
True freshman Carly Singer leads the Wildcats with a goal and an assist, while Lisa Webster and Molly Downtain have also found the back of the net.
Cal State Monterey Bay (1-1) opened the season with a 2-0 win against Menlo College before falling to Notre Dame de Namur 1-0 on Tuesday.
San Francisco State is 1-0-1 after earning a tie and a win while playing a pair of double-overtime matches to start the season. The Gators tied Western Washington 0-0 and defeated Central Washington 1-0.
The Gators were picked to finish fourth and the Otters sixth in the North Division by CCAA coaches in their preseason poll.
