Justine Barclay exacerbated the heartbreak of a season it's been for the Chico State women's soccer team this season, scoring the golden goal in the sixth minute of overtime to lift visiting Cal Poly Pomona to a 1-0 victory at University Soccer Stadium Friday afternoon. Jennifer Rivera got the ball to Gloria Gonzalez in the box, and she fed a cross to Barclay who ran onto it and finished at the mouth of the goal.
Chico State fell to 2-3-0 with its third overtime loss of the season. The Wildcats are 1-2-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Cal Poly Pomona improved to 4-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the CCAA. The Broncos, ranked No. 10 in the West Region entering the weekend, have yet to allow a goal this season.
Cal Poly Pomona enjoyed a 10-7 edge in shots, while Chico State took nine corner kicks to the Broncos' four. Broncos goalkeeper Sarah Rohman made a pair of saves, while Wildcats freshman Sydney Oliver made one.
Chico State's Molly Downtain hit the post late in the second half, nearly giving the Wildcats the lead.
Chico State hosts 13th ranked Cal State San Bernardino Sunday at 2 p.m.
