Women’s soccer team hopes to gain momentum this weekend

Wildcats shut out both Sonoma and Humboldt the first time around

The Chico State women’s soccer team was at .500 the last time it was poised to face Sonoma State and Humboldt State over the course of a weekend. The Wildcats won both matches to get out of the doldrums. They are hoping for a carbon copy this Friday and Sunday when they travel to face Sonoma State Friday at 3 p.m. and Humboldt State Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Wildcats, 5-5 overall and 4-4 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), are coming off a frustrating two-loss weekend, but could find themselves right back in the hunt for a CCAA North Division title. Cal State Stanislaus leads the division at 6-2 and San Francisco State (5-2-1) is in second place.

Sonoma State (2-5-2 overall and 1-5-2 in the CCAA) has struggled mightily to score this season, having been shutout in seven of their nine outings. The Wildcats handed the Seawolves their worst loss of the season on Sept. 26 in Chico, 4-0, as they scored three goals during the span of 3:25 of the first half and led 4-0 by intermission.

Humboldt State has also been shut out seven times, including a 1-0 loss in Chico on Sept. 26. Lisa Webster scored one of the prettiest goals of the season for Chico State to carry the Wildcats to victory.
