Wildcats shut out for first time this season

Golden Eagles win on overtime header

Julian Ringhof shouldered home Joe Davis' throw in in the seventh minute of overtime to lift Cal State L.A. to a 1-0 victory against Chico State Sunday at University Soccer Stadium. The loss snapped a three game winning streak for the Wildcats and ended a three-game losing streak for the Golden Eagles, which had been ranked as high as No. 9 in the nation before dropping three in a row.

The Wildcats, shut out for the first time this season, dropped to 8-2-0 overall and 6-2-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). Cal State L.A. improved to 6-3-0 overall and 5-3-0 in the CCAA.

Thaddeus Caraway made his first start in goal for the Golden Eagles an impressive one, tallying seven saves to earn the shutout. Another ball was saved off the line by Brennen Brodersen.

The Wildcats earned a 13-7 advantage in shots and 7-2 edge in corners. Ferid Celosmanovic led all players with four shots, including three on goal. His other shot banged off the crossbar. Nick Tedrow and Josh Borja also had solid efforts turned away by Caraway.

Ringhof headers accounted for two of the Golden Eagles' three shots on goal. On the goal, Davis' throw in flew almost all the way to the far post. Ringhof popped it up and over Wildcats' goalkeeper Sam Evans' outstretched hands with a combination of his shoulder and head.

Chico State is back in action next weekend at Sonoma State Friday and Humboldt State Sunday.
