Gibson gives WIldcats 3-2 win at Western Washington

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Kevin Gibson has been waiting his chance. He got it Monday and took full advantage, scoring two goals, including the game winner with three minutes remaining in regulation, to lift the Chico State men's soccer team to a 3-2 win at Western Washington Monday afternoon. The junior from Santa Rosa had not seen the pitch in three of the Wildcats' first four matches of the season.

Monday, Gibson headed home Kyle Crain's corner kick in the 34th minute to tie the match 1-1. After the Wildcats fell behind 2-1 on Kellan Brown's second goal of the match, Adam Raish headed home Crain's set piece to deadlock the match at 2-2. Gibson broke the deadlock at the 87:05 mark when he rebounded home Luis Martinez's deflected shot.

Adam Raish
Gibson has now scored four career goals, three of which were game winners. Crain's second assist was the 10th of his career. In a little less than three seasons, he has moved to within five assists of ranking inside Chico State's career top-10 in that category. Raish's goal was the second of his career and the first since his freshman season. The fourth-year senior and three time All-CCAA Academic Team selection was playing in his 62nd consecutive match since coming to Chico State.

Chico State, ranked No. 3 in the West Region entering the week, improved to 3-1. Western Washington fell to 2-2.

The Wildcats enjoyed a 17-13 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Michael Keohane made a trio of saves.

Chico State is back in action Friday night when it opens its CCAA campaign at Humboldt State.
