Wildcats play Humboldt to scoreless tie in double overtime

CHICO - The Chico State women’s soccer team has enjoyed playing and scoring goals at home this season. The Wildcats were 4-0 in University Soccer Stadium and had outscored their opponents 11-2 at home entering today’s match. But the CCAA opener against Humboldt State this afternoon was a different story. Despite outshooting the Lumberjacks, the Wildcats were unable to find the back of the net and had to settle for a 0-0 tie after double overtime.

Chico State, now 4-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 in CCAA play, took 17 shots in the game, including five in overtime, but couldn’t capitalize on any. Allison Sward led the team with four shots and Kelsey Ikemoto and Brittney Doty had three apiece.

Humboldt (4-2-1, 0-0-1 CCAA) managed just four shots in the match, all in the second half, with Kim Carroll leading the ‘Jacks with two attempts.

Lauren Vance made two saves for the Wildcats in the 110 minutes of play, while Humboldt keeper, Kelly Sandberg, was forced to make eight.

Conference play continues for the Wildcats when they host Cal Poly Pomona next Friday at 7 p.m. and Cal Sate San Bernardino on Sunday at 11:30 a.m..
