There were several heroes in the Chico State softball team's four-game sweep of San Francisco State, but one of the biggest reasons the Wildcats' program-record 22-game win streak is still alive was the outstanding relief work of Sam Mulock. The sophomore southpaw enjoyed her most productive weekend of the season, holding the Gators scoreless over two appearances and picking up a pair of victories in the process. Mulock's efforts also make her the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Â
The San Diego product twirled eight-and-a-third innings of shutout relief, allowing just six hits and holding San Francisco State hitters to a paltry .207 batting average. Mulock and fellow Chico State pitcher Haley Gilham both chalked up two wins to help the No. 2 Wildcats improve to 47-3 on the season and 37-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
Â
Mulock blanked the Gators over one-and-two-thirds innings in the second game of Friday's series-opening doubleheader, allowing Chico State to score four runs in the ninth to post a 10-6 win. In the nightcap of Saturday's twin bill, Mulock came on in relief in the opening frame and held San Francisco State to just six hits in six-and-a-third innings, getting credit for the "W" in the Wildcats' 7-3 victory and raising her season record to 7-0.Â
Â
Mulock and the Wildcats now turn their attention to the "second season," taking the top seed into the CCAA Championship Tournament, taking place Friday through Sunday in Stockton.Â
