He’s been a starter, a key reserve off the bench, and one of the Chico State men’s basketball team’s most reliable shooters. No matter what role head coach Greg Clink has asked Miles Daniels to take on this season, the freshman guard has been up to the challenge. In the ’Cats’ road tilts against Cal State East Bay and Cal State Dominguez Hills, Daniels delivered some big minutes and several big buckets to help the ’Cats conclude January in the win column—and his on-court efforts make Daniels the latest Wildcat of the Week.
The Concord product put up a combined 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and handed out six assists in Chico State’s two road contests, but it was his consistency from behind the 3-point arc that helped the Wildcats snap their four-game losing streak. Daniels railed a total of five treys as the ’Cats improved to 9-10 on the season and 7-7 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
Thursday against Cal State East Bay, Daniels hit two 3-pointers on the way to scoring eight points to go along with six rebounds and four assists. He filled the stat sheet in a big way Saturday versus Dominguez Hills, knocking down three treys, scoring 10 points, and hauling in five boards, while also adding two assists, a block, and a steal in the Wildcats’ 62-55 win over the Toros.
For the season, Daniels is averaging 5.7 points and 3.5 rebounds a game. He leads the Wildcats with five blocked shots on the season.
Daniels and the Wildcats are back in the friendly confines of Acker Gym this week for an important pair of conference matchups. Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Chico State takes on the Seawolves of Sonoma State, then host Cal Poly Humboldt Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
