Chico State Athletics

Dominating defense keyed the Chico State women's soccer team's 6-0-1 finish to the regular season. And Wildcat of the Week Abbie Jones has been the most dominant defender of them all.

The sophomore center back from Shingle Springs anchored a Chico State back line that posted two more clean sheets last week in victories of 4–0 at Cal State Dominguez Hills and 1–0 at Cal State LA.

Those marked the fourth and fifth shutouts in the past seven matches for the Wildcats. They now have eight on the season.

Jones, who has started every match for Chico State and leads the Wildcats in minutes played, has been on the pitch for all but 51 minutes this season. She and the Wildcats have improved as the season has progressed.

The Wildcats have outscored their opponents 16–2 during their current seven-match unbeaten streak, and allowed just 22 shots on goal in the process. Jones has even gotten in on the scoring, tallying twice during the Wildcats' unbeaten streak.

Jones and the Chico State defense have been especially impressive at home. The Wildcats are 8-0-1 at University Soccer Stadium, allowing just four goals.

They'll try to keep that momentum going Tuesday when they host Cal State San Marcos in a CCAA Tournament opening-round match at 1:30.
