Chico State freshman Carter Johnson led the Wildcats to a pair of wins over the weekend, scoring a goal in each match, to earn the Wildcat of the Week award.
Â
The true freshman took a pass just inside the box, made two quick moves, and hit a low liner into the far right corner for the Wildcats' second goal in the first 14 minutes of a 2-0 victory against San Francisco State on Friday.
Â
In a 2-0 win against Cal State Monterey Bay Sunday, Johnson's biggest moment came well before he scored. He jumped all over a square pass from a defender near the top of the left side of the 18-yard box. Only a blatant jersey grab by Otters defender Julian Salas kept Johnson from a clear path to the goal. But Salas was cited for his jersey snatch and shown a red card in the 25th minute, forcing Cal State Monterey Bay to play a man down for the rest of the match.
Â
Another Johnson sneak attack in the 80th minute made it 2-0. Dylan Wakefield's pressure caused a worried defender to play the ball back to goalkeeper Evan Drake and Johnson jumped the play from the backside, poking the ball by a shocked Drake.
Â
Johnson now has three goals on the season.

The Wildcats will wrap up the regular season Thursday, hosting Cal State San Bernardino at 4:30 at University Soccer Stadium. It's a safe bet that when the 2015 campaign rolls around, Chico State fans will be clamoring to welcome back Carter.
