If he keeps playing like this, it's not a matter of if, but when Alistair Docherty will win his first collegiate tournament. The Chico State junior led the InterWest Wildcat Classic at Butte Creek Country Club heading in today's final round and then posted the second best round of the day, only to finish second.
The Wildcat of the Week has plenty to be proud of with his runner-up finish, which led Chico State to a 10-stroke victory and earned him All-Tournament honors: It marked second top-10 in two 2014-15 tournaments; it was his 13th-consecutive top-20 finish dating back to the start of last season; and in 11 of those events, he's been in the top 10.
Docherty, the Wildcats' active career scoring leader at 73.03 strokes per round, finished 7-under par this week. He fired a 1-under par 71 Monday morning and then carded a 4-under par 68 in the afternoon. Tuesday's 2-under par 70 gives him five sub-par rounds in this season's first six.
The 2013-14 All-American will enter the Cal State Monterey Bay Otter Invitational Oct. 20-21 at Bayonet in Seaside with a season stroke average of 70.33.
