Entering the 2013-14 season, the Chico State women's basketball team knew full well that any significant success would greatly hinge on its post play. Senior forward Analise Riezebos has certainly done her share to help the Wildcats win five of their first seven games, and last weekend she was nearly unstoppable in the paint on both ends of the floor, just missing two straight double-doubles against San Francisco State and Sonoma State. The outstanding performances add up to Riezebos being named Wildcat of the Week.
Riezebos finished the weekend averaging 10.5 points over the two games, connecting on 60 percent of her shots (9-for-15). She was even more impressive on the boards, averaging a hefty 12 rebounds a contest.
Friday against San Francisco State, Riezebos scored a team-high 12 points to go along with nine rebounds, one assist and one steal, but it wasn't enough to keep the 'Cats from bowing to the Gators 82-65. The Wildcats bounced back Saturday in a 65-58 win over Sonoma State, and again Riezebos was a huge contributor, netting nine points and tying her career high with 15 rebounds.    Â
Riezebos is averaging 11.4 points a game so far on the season, ranking second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in field goal percent (55.6 percent). The Santa Maria native is also 10th in the conference in rebounding, averaging 7.6 boards a contest.
Riezebos and the Chico State women's basketball team take some time off before returning to CCAA play Saturday, Dec. 21, hosting Cal State Stanislaus at Acker Gym.
