Katie Spencer has turned in one solid run after another in her final season as a member of the Chico State women’s cross country team. The senior from Redlands has posted four top 15 finishes this fall, and was named All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) for the second straight year. But Saturday in Spokane, Wash., Spencer added another impressive performance to her ever-growing resume, finishing in 14th place at the NCAA West Regional Championships. Spencer’s outstanding effort makes her the latest Wildcat of the Week.
Spencer was the third of six Chico State runners to finish in the top 25, completing the 6-kilometer Plantes Ferry Sports Complex course with a time of 22:05 to earn All-West Region honors for the first time in her four-year career.
The efforts of Spencer and her Wildcat teammates resulted in a second place finish at the West Regional, and insured that the Chico State women’s cross country team would make its 12th straight appearance at the NCAA Championships, taking place Nov. 19 in Spokane.
