Heading into last Saturday’s California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross Country Championships, Chico State senior Alan Campos had run well during the 2010 season, but had not finished higher than 21st place in any of his three races. So with the conference title on the line, Campos picked the perfect time to deliver his best run of the year, finishing sixth in the event to grab All-CCAA honors, and help the ’Cats capture their ninth straight CCAA cross country crown. Campos’ impressive performance has also earned the native of Pico Rivera the Wildcat of the Week award.
Campos registered a time of 24:58.3 for the 8k event, and was the fifth of seven Chico State runners to finish in the top 10 at Whittier Narrows Regional Park in South El Monte. Campos’ sixth place showing bettered his seventh place finish while running as a sophomore in the 2008 CCAA Championships.
Campos and the rest of the men’s cross country team now sets their sights on Bellingham, Wash., where Chico State – ranked No. 4 in the nation and No. 1 in the West Region – will compete in the NCAA West Regionals Nov. 20.
