ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – After leading the Chico State baseball team to a four-game non-conference sweep over the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs at Nettleton Stadium last weekend, Wildcat outfielder Keoni Coloma's performance at the plate highlights earned him the FloCollege/CCAA Player of the Week award.
Â
It is the second straight weekly award for Chico State. Thomas Meyer garnered FloCollege/CCAA Pitcher of the Week honors last week.
Â
Coloma powered Chico State to the sweep over the Mountain Lions with one of the most dynamic offensive weeks in the conference. He recorded six hits in the series, highlighted by a perfect 4-for-4 performance in game two that included two triples, two RBIs and three runs scored. With his two-triple game, Coloma became just the fifth player in program history to recorded multiple three-baggers in a game.
Â
He added another triple in game three and reached base safely multiple times in the series finally, drawing two intentional walks and a hit-by-pitch before scoring the tying run in the seventh inning.
Â
A native of Pleasant Hill, Coloma has started 12 of 14 games he's played. He leads the team with a .344 batting average and his big weekend hitting those triples puts him on top of the CCAA with four total.
Â
Chico State and its Highway 99 rivals Stanislaus State will play a three-game series this weekend at Nettleton Stadium to wrap up the non-conference schedule for both teams. The series begins with one game Friday at 2 p.m. followed by a 9/7-inning doubleheader Saturday at noon.
