POMONA – On the eve of its conference baseball championship, the CCAA unveiled its postseason awards Tuesday and Chico State outfielder Troy Kent was tabbed first-team all-league while pitchers Marco Ibarra and Kevin Lyons receive honorable mention.
 
It is the first time in their careers that Kent, Ibarra and Lyons were awarded postseason honors.
 
A native of Huntington Beach and a transfer from Santa Ana College, Kent joined Chico State in the offseason and became an immediate impact for the Wildcats. He started all 47 games he played and batted in the top of the order the entire season, hitting a team-second-best .355 while leading the ballclub with 17 doubles, eight home runs and 49 RBIs. Kent also made Chico State history by tying Daniel Code's 22-game hitting streak, a record in which he stood alone for 17 years.
 
Kent had kept his batting average above .330 for 44 games.
 
Having been a reliever throughout the 2023 season, Ibarra transitioned to the starting role this season and had been the game one starter all year long. The Carson native made 14 appearances and with 64.1 innings of work, he was credited for seven wins and recorded 31 strikeouts. He also had a run of winning 4-of-5 starts midway through the conference season.
 
Playing in his final season at Chico State, Lyons made 14 appearances on the mound. He ranked fourth in the CCAA in innings pitched (71) and ninth in earned-run average (4.06). he was voted CCAA Pitcher of the Week for March 18-24 after throwing seven shutout innings against offensively strong Cal State LA. He also struck out five in that outing as well.
 
Chico State finished the regular season 25-23 overall and 19-20 in the CCAA, finishing fifth in the CCAA and qualify for the conference tournament after missing the 2023 postseason.
 
The Wildcats will the win-or-go-home opening round of the CCAA Championships against San Francisco State at Cal Poly Pomona's Scolinos Field on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The winners of the first round will join the top seeds Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State San Marcos in the four-team double-elimination bracket. The CCAA Tournament champion will receive an automatic berth into NCAA West Regionals next week.
