Wildcats, Seawolves to Play Two Twinbills to Avoid Weather

4/30/2024 4:14:00 PM

CHICO -- Due to expected rain on Saturday's forecast, the Chico State and Sonoma State baseball teams' regular-season finale at Nettleton Stadium has been changed to back-to-back doubleheaders Thursday and Friday.

With all four games important for both teams because of postseason implications, the new schedule will look like this:
Thursday - 3 p.m. (9 innings) | 6 p.m. (9 innings)
Friday - Noon (9 innings) | 3 p.m. (7 innings)

In addition, the Wildcats will be moving their Senior Day ceremony to Friday at 11:35 a.m. They will be honoring Andrew Crane, Dillon Day, Kevin Lyons, Nathan and Nolan Meredith.

The CCAA takes the top six teams into its conference tournament, held May 8-11 at Scolinos Field at Cal Poly Pomona. Due to an uneven number of games because of weather cancellations, the CCAA uses win percentages to determine the participants. Cal State San Marcos, Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Montere Bay have secured spots while both the Wildcats and Seawolves are fighting for three open spots remaining. The Wildcats, with a 18-17 (.514) conference record, holds on to fifth place in the CCAA standings and leads both Sonoma State (16-20, .444) and Cal State LA (16-20, .444) by two games. Chico State is also a half-game behind fourth-place San Francisco State (19-17, .528). Also in the chase is Cal State Dominguez Hills (15-20, .429) and Cal State East Bay (14-21, .400).
