Wildcats Show Out at Kim Duyst Invitational

TURLOCK - The Wildcats women's track and field team competed against a hefty competition from all levels at the Kim Duyst Invitational hosted by Stanislaus State on Friday and Saturday. The 'Cats found great success in a variety of events, taking home the team win at Warrior Field and stealing the top spots in the javelin throw, high jump, 100m hurdles, and 

The field events kicked off on Friday, with Ava Cavallaro finishing in fourth in the 35.47m hurl of the discus. 

Most events occurred on Saturday, with the Wildcats putting their best foot forward to start the 2024 season. Rebecca Graham was the first of the bunch to put up an impressive result, taking the top spot in the javelin throw with a 28.02m throw, clearing second place by 3 meters and setting a new personal record.

Senior Kendra Pearson leaped into the top spot in the high jump with an impressive fourth attempt at 1.62m, shy of her personal best of 1.65m that she set recently at Butte College last weekend. Fellow Wildcat Mary Casserly is just ten meters below Pearson with a 1.52m result, landing her in fifth.

Another Wildcat that had a successful day was junior Natalie Muse, the multi-event athlete taking second place in the triple jump with a final attempt of 10.72m.

On the track, the 4x100m Chico State 'A' squad consisting of Alexis Hinojosa, Jessica James, Morgan Greene, and Sativa Younge crossed the finish line with a dashing 49.82 time, earning a second-place finish just Monterey Penisula's group.

Freshman Sienna Bianchi was a top performer for the Wildcats, earning second place in the 1500m with a time of 4:50.02; teammate Katie Hawley was not far behind, crossing the line at 4:54. In her second event of the day, Bianchi jumped back in to compete in the 800m, taking home a solid third-place finish at 2:22.24. 

After her impressive relay in the 4x100m, senior Alexis Hinojosa hopped back onto the track for the 100m hurdles, taking home the top spot with a time of 14.61. Her time falls only a millisecond behind the personal best that she set last spring at the conference championships.

In the 400m, Danielle Bacon finished in third with a lap time of 59.01, only a second behind the top two from Stanislaus State and Fresno Pacific. After a short break, Bacon was back on the track for the 200m and finished in the top ten with a time of 25.85 to finish her day out.

Rounding out the Kim Duyst Invite was the 4x400m relay, and Alexis Hinojosa, Jessica James, Danielle Bacon, and Natalie Muse took part in the final event for the Wildcats. Hinojosa and Bacon took part in her third event of the day but still managed to cross the finish in first with a breeze at 4:10.28.

All the strong performances from the Wildcats gave them the overall team win with 128 points. The host Stanislaus State at 105 came in second place, and PacWest competitor Fresno Pacific was in third place.
