SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The Chico State women's track & field team competed across the Bay Area this weekend, taking part in three meets—the Brutus Hamilton Invite & Multis, Stanford Invite and Mike Fanelli Classic—gaining valuable experience against top Division I competition.
The Wildcats' distance squad continued to shine, adding three new names to the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying list at the Mike Fanelli Classic, bringing Chico State's total to eight athletes. Notably, two of those marks came from freshmen competing in their first collegiate seasons—Paulina Martins and Kira Forsberg. Additionally, the distance squad claimed three provisional marks in the 10,000m at the Stanford Invite on Saturday, while freshman Savannah Sawyer notched a provo mark against a stacked Brutus Hamilton field.
Brutus Hamilton Multis
- Talynn Schroeder recorded Chico State's top finish in the heptathlon at UC Berkeley, totaling 4,075 points. She set personal bests in the 800 meters (2:45.03) and 200 meters (26.63).
- Annabelle Low placed 14th overall with 3,479 points.
Mike Fanelli Classic
- Sienna Bianchi continued her strong season with a personal-best and NCAA DII provisional mark in the 1500 meters (4:28.82), finishing ninth in a field of over 175 competitors. She competed in the top heat, finishing just eight seconds behind the Division I winner from San Francisco.
- Paulina Martins placed 10th in the 5000 meters with a season-best 16:41.85, improving her provisional mark and moving into the top spot nationally in the event.
- Kira Forsberg added her name to the provisional list in the 5000 meters, running 16:52.35 in her first collegiate season.
- April Anguiano impressed in the 10,000 meters, finishing 10th with a season-best 36:57.81 in her debut at the distance.
- Olivia Beschorner recorded a standout performance in the 3000-meter steeplechase, winning the event with a 10:42.23—an NCAA DII provisional mark. Her time ranks sixth in the nation and fifth all-time in Chico State history.
- The distance medley relay team of Catherine McGuire, Sidney Garcia, Olivia Beschorner and Sienna Bianchitook first place with a time of 12:00.20.
Brutus Hamilton Invite
- Emma Gaddy placed second in the 400 meters with a personal-best 56.01.
- Yanise Harris (14.48) and Kylie Davis (14.69) recorded season-best times in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing eighth and 10th, respectively.
- Savannah Sawyer posted a personal-best 1:01.70 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish third and earn an NCAA DII provisional mark. Her time ranks fourth all-time in Chico State history. She also added a personal best of 12.21 in the 100 meters.
- The 4x100 relay team of Tianna Thompson, Madi Monroe, Teresa Vasconcellos and Crystal Rosales finished fifth with a time of 46.66.
- The 4x400 relay team of Emma Gaddy, Destin Armstrong, Teresa Vasconcellos and Crystal Rosales placed second with a time of 3:44.92.
- Janey Rubio tied her season-best in the pole vault, clearing 3.70 meters to finish third. Teammate Charlie Hamalso cleared 3.70 meters.
- Daeja Downing placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 33.42 meters.
Stanford Invite
- Iresh Molina led a trio of Wildcats in the 10,000 meters, recording a 33:38.07 to earn another NCAA DII provisional mark.
- Della Molina (34:06.18) and Megan Malloy (34:34.54) also secured provisional marks, giving Chico State multiple qualifiers in the event.
- Jordin McDowell placed 14th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.66, while Yanise Harris added a personal best of 15.11, finishing 28th.
