’Cats continue early season success at Wildcat Cup Invitational

Chico State women’s track & field team posts two program all-time top 10 performances, 10 personal best marks, and 21 season-best efforts

MARYSVILLE—Why travel all the way to State Capital when you can be just as successful less than an hour from home? Due to the cancelation of Sacramento State's Hornet Invitational, the Chico State women's track & field team instead enjoyed an amazingly productive Friday and Saturday in Marysville at the Yuba College-hosted Wildcat Cup Invitational, with two Wildcats etching their names in the program's all-time top 10 record book, and many more 'Cats achieving season or personal best marks.

Chloe Taylor, who set a new school record in the 400-meter hurdles at last week's Wildcat Invitational, scored an NCAA Provisional mark and turned in the fifth-fastest time in program history in the Wildcat Cup Invitational's 400-meter dash Saturday, stopping the clock with a winning time of 55.89 seconds. Taylor teamed with Danielle Bacon, Savannah Bailey, and Jessica James to win the 4x100-meter relay with a season-best time of 47.85 seconds, and combined with Bacon, Bailey, and Taylor Lee to record the quartet's fastest time of the season (3:54.60) in winning the 4x400-meter relay. Taylor also finished second Saturday in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.55 seconds.

Josie Peterson took top honors in the Wildcat Cup Invitational's javelin competition, with a personal best distance of 41.22 meters—the eighth-longest throw in program history.

Four other Wildcats recorded first place finishes Saturday. Katie Hawley won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.62 (she was also the top Wildcat performer in the 1,500-meter run, placing third with a season-best time of 4:43.90). Marissa D'Atri earned an NCAA Provisional mark while finishing first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:56.88), Gracie Dupuis was the first to cross the finish line in the 5,000-meter run (18:38.20), and Elise Barnum was the winner in Friday's pole vault competition, clearing the bar at 3.35 meters.
