This was supposed to be a bye week for the Chico State baseball team. But the Wildcats aren't going to turn down an opportunity to get in a few more games before the start of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference season. As a result, the 'Cats will be in action this Sunday and Monday at Nettleton Stadium, hosting the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa. The three-game set begins with a single contest Sunday at 3 p.m., followed by a Monday doubleheader slated to start at 12 noon.
Fan unable to attend can listen to Mike Baca's play-by-play locally on KPAY Sports 1290-AM, with the broadcast simulcast on the Internet. Live Stats are also available online, with links accessible on the Wildcat Athletics homepage and the baseball schedule page. There will be no online streaming offered for any of the three games.
Fans that can make it out to "The Nett" will be admitted free on both Sunday and Monday.
Chico State enters this previously unscheduled series with Colorado Mesa 3-3 on the year. The Wildcats took two out of three last week last week at home against Fresno Pacific after opening the season dropping two of three at the February 3–5 Houston Winter Invitational.
Colorado Mesa is 4-0 on the young season. The Mavericks opened the season sweeping nationally-ranked Azusa Pacific, outscoring the Cougars 48-26 in the four-game set. Colorado Mesa's scheduled three-game series this week against No. 6 Southern New Hampshire was cancelled due to snowy weather conditions in Grand Junction, Colorado, prompting the Mavericks to attempt to make up those games. Colorado Mesa reached out to Chico State, which was more than happy to accommodate.
