Thanks to the Wildcat Family, the Chico State Athletic Department received a laser blast of energy Tuesday. A total of 306 donors donated more than $31,000 to fund the purchase of a therapy laser gun and team travel gear, and increase the pool of student-athlete scholarship funds available to our programs.
"We have deep gratitude for everyone who took the time to Back the 'Cats yesterday," said Executive Director of Athletics Anita Barker. "The support of our Wildcat Family is a crucial component of our ability to not just survive as a department, but thrive. We recognize that we have something special in terms of the support we receive."
The women's golf team took home the Back the 'Cats Cup thanks to an average of 4.4 donors per student-athlete, dethroning 2021 champion women's soccer. Men's golf and women's track and field placed second and third, respectively. The women's track and field team netted the most total donors with 47.
Special thanks also goes to women's track and field student-athlete Citlalli Fernandez and the 14 donors who gave in her honor, and alumnus Dr. Earl Reed, who generously matched all gifts between 1–2 p.m. up to $1,250.
"Once again, we asked, and our Wildcat Family delivered," said Athletics Director of Philanthropy Ellie Larrone (Volleyball, class of 2014). "The generous contributions made to Back the 'Cats will have a direct and positive impact on our student-athletes and will help this department maintain the competitive excellence that Chico State Athletics is known for. I am grateful and also proud that our deserving student-athletes have the support of such a loyal group of alumni, friends, and family. Thank you to all who participated!"
Though the winner of the Cup has been decided, the link to give will remain open until Friday, September 23, at 5 p.m. for anyone who has not yet had a chance to participate. Thanks again for backing the 'Cats with the concrete support we need to build upon the foundation set by our alumni, and perhaps raise the Chico State banner higher than ever.
