Nadia Torkman named CCAA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week

Chico State senior earns PR in high jump at Bryan Clay Invitational, helps Wildcats 4x100 relay team record season’s fastest time

Nadia Torkman's 2022 track and field season has been spectacular, to say the least…and it keeps getting better with each passing week. The Wildcats' super senior has excelled in multiple events, recording consistently high marks and posting new personal bests along the way. Competing in a pair of Southern California meets last week, Torkman was even more impressive, notching an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark and Chico State all-time Top 10 effort in the high jump, and helping the Wildcats 4x100-meter relay team record its fastest time of the season not once, but twice. Her efforts have earned Torkman California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women's T&F Field Athlete of the Week honors for April 11-17.

Friday at the Azusa Pacific-hosted Bryan Clay Invitational, Torkman posted her NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark and finished ninth overall in the high jump (and second among the 13 Division II competitors) with a height of 1.68 meters (5-feet-06). The effort helped Torkman literally leap into the Wildcat record books and into sixth place on Chico State's all-time Top 10 high jump list.

Earlier in the day, Torkman teamed with Mckenzie Blair, Chloe Taylor, and Savannah Bailey for a season-best 4x100-meter relay time of 48.31 seconds. On Saturday, the Wildcat foursome bettered its 4x1 time at the Long Beach Invitational, stopping the clock at 48.22 seconds.

Torkman wrapped up her busy week in SoCal by finishing fifth in her 15-woman flight and 11th overall out of 47 total competitors with her 1.66-meter high jump clearance at the Long Beach Invitational.

Torkman continues to lead the CCAA in the high jump, and ranks 27th in the nation. The Nevada City product's personal best throw of 39.51 meters in the javelin also ranks third in the conference.

Torkman and the Wildcats are back in action Friday and Saturday, hosting the Chico Invitational at University Stadium. That will mark the team's final warmup before the CCAA Championships May 5–7 at Cox Stadium in San Francisco.
