Though he had to wait two years after transferring from Riverside College, the 2022 season has seen Chico State's Adam Kasten firmly establish himself as one of top men's distance jumpers in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). His high-flying talents were on full display at the Sacramento State Invitational, posting impressive marks in both the long jump and triple jump—so impressive, in fact, that Kasten has been named CCAA Men's T&F Field Athlete of the Week for April 4–10.
With gusty conditions prevailing Saturday at Sac State's Hornet Stadium, Kasten improved his CCAA-best long jump mark with a wind-aided effort of 7.17 meters and a non-wind-aided mark of 7.12, placing first in the 14-man field. Kasten's nearest competitor finished .12 meters behind, while his nearest collegiate rival was over a half a foot (.20 meters) back.
Kasten's effort bested his previous personal long jump of 7.10 meters, which already led the CCAA by .21 meters entering the weekend.
Kasten also finished third in meet's triple jump competition with a mark of 13.80 meters, as the Wildcats were just nipped in the team standings by host Sacramento State, 150-137.
Kasten and the Chico State men's track & field team are in Southern California this week to compete in a pair of meets. The Wildcats will be in Azusa Wednesday through Friday at the Bryan Clay Invitational, as well as the Long Beach Invitational Friday and Saturday.
