SAN FRANCISCO—Three days worth of Chico State track & field action got off to an extremely positive start Thursday, as Wildcat women's distance runner Hannah Ryan posted a personal best 10,000-meter time—and an NCAA Provisional Qualify mark—at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco.
Ryan completed the 25 laps around San Francisco State's Cox Stadium track with a time of 36:24.23, finishing third overall in the 16-runner field. Not only did she secure an NCAA Provisional mark with the effort, Ryan lopped over three minutes off her previous best time in the event, set back in 2019 when she was part of the City College of San Francisco women's track & field program.
Wildcat teammate Gracie Dupuis, competing in the 10k for the first time this season, finished seventh in Thursday's race, stopping the clock at 36:47.00.
A total of 31 Wildcats are among a competitive field at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic, including a number of Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, and junior college programs.
The Mike Fanelli Track Classic continues Friday with the 1,500- and 5,000-meter runs, and concludes with the 4x400-meter relay. Saturday's final day features a mixture of distance events, sprints, hurdles, relays, and field events. Two special events the Wildcats will take part in are the distance medley—a relay consisting of 1,200-, 400-, 800-, and 1,600-meter legs—and the meet-closing sprint medley, with a pair of 200-meter legs combined with a 400- and 800-meter leg.
Meanwhile in Hayward, nine Wildcats are taking part Thursday in various field events at the Chabot Invitational, though their results have not yet been made available. Keep an eye out for them at
