The only speed bump in the 14
th-ranked Chico State baseball team's impressive 11-2 start to the season came on their only road trip thus far. They get their first crack at a little redemption this weekend when they travel to Southern California for a four-game series against Cal Poly Pomona, the team picked by the California Collegiate Athletic Association's coaches to win the conference title in 2022.
Chico State was picked to finish second in the preseason and starts its first conference road trip and second conference series atop the conference standings at 4-0. Cal Poly Pomona is 6-7 overall and 1-3 in the CCAA, having dropped its last three games of the series at Cal State San Bernardino last weekend. This weekend's series begins with a single game Friday at 5 p.m., continues with a doubleheader Saturday at noon, and concludes with a single game Sunday at 11 a.m.
All four games will be broadcast on the CCAA Network. For $9.95 per month, fans can access every Chico State game—home and away—along with all live and archived CCAA matchups. Limited audio streams via Deer Creek Broadcasting and all Live Stats will also be available, with links found at
www.chicowildcats.com in the calendar section of the website's homepage, and on the Chico State baseball schedule page. Local radio broadcasts will vary this week due to the postseason basketball schedule. Friday's game will be broadcast locally on FM-93.9 KPAY but will not be streamed. Saturday's first game will be broadcast on AM-1290 KPAY and streamed. The station and streaming information is yet to be determined for Saturday's second game. Sunday's series finale will be broadcast on AM-1290 and streamed.
The Wildcats are 10-0 at home this season, but only 1-2 on the road. They dropped two of three at Fresno Pacific on Feb. 11-12. More than half of the walks they have issued all season (24 of 47) came during that three-game series.
Chico State enters this series with the CCAA's best team ERA of 3.09. The Wildcats also boast the top team batting average of .347 and second highest fielding percentage of .979. Cal Poly Pomona ranks first in fielding percentage (.979), eighth best ERA (6.79), and eighth highest team batting average (.264).
Chico State's Kyle Dobson—the reigning CCAA Player of the Week—leads the CCAA with a .591 batting average, while Grady Morgan (.435) ranks sixth and Jarret Lindsay (.409) eighth. Wildcats starting pitcher Rylan Tinsley ranks second in the CCAA WITH A 1.69 ERA, while Cody Gentry is tied for the conference lead with three wins and Gavin Kinney is tied for the conference lead with two saves.

During our short time back together in 2021–22, Chico State's student-athletes are already back to blowing us away on every front. They've generated video companions aimed at encouraging all fellow Wildcats as part of their
Scratch the Stigma initiative, re-launching with an enhanced version in March. They've earned six postseason berths, highlighted by CCAA and West Regional Men's Cross Country championships and the men's basketball team's highest-ever national and regional rankings. And they've exceled in the classroom, combining for 27 perfect 4.0 GPAs, while 217—more than two-thirds of them—earned GPAs of 3.0 or higher.
Since the very beginning, Chico State Athletics has been a special program. And that continues today. Since joining the CCAA—the nation's premiere NCAA Division II conference— in 1998, Chico State's student-athletes have continued to:
- Excel academically.
- Contribute in the community.
- Conquer in competition.
- 80 CCAA titles.
- 37 West Region Championships.
- 16 NCAA Champions.
Your gift to Athletic Training, Strength and Conditioning, 'CatsSkills, the Wildcat Athletic Fund (which provides for the department's greatest overall needs), and/or your favorite program, gets us a crucial step closer to the next special moment for our Wildcat Family. We go farther together than we do alone. Thank you!
