’Cats travel to Pacific Northwest for Western Washington Invitational

Chico State women’s golf among 16 teams competing in 36-hole tournament at Bellingham Golf and Country Club

Following one of its best rounds of the year to close out the Sonoma State Fall Invitational, the Chico State women's golf team looks to extend its positive momentum to the Pacific Northwest, as the Wildcats return to action this Monday and Tuesday as part of the Western Washington Fall Invitational, taking place at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club in Bellingham, Washington.
 
Both rounds of the two-day, 36-hole tournament will get underway at 9 a.m. Fans can follow the results online with Live Stats; the link is available on the Wildcat Athletics website home page and the women's golf schedule page.
 
Chico State looks to build on its eighth place showing earlier this week at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational. The Wildcats shot a collective 87-over par 663, finishing the tournament with a solid second round score of 36-over 324.
 
Four of the golfers that represented the 'Cats in Santa Rosa will tackle the Bellingham Golf and Country Club's par-72, 5,889-yard layout Monday and Tuesday.
 
Taylor Stewart has gotten her 2022–23 season off to an outstanding start, stringing together four sub-80 rounds over the Wildcats' first two fall tournaments. Stewart, averaging 75.8 strokes a round, carded an 8-over par 152 on the way to a fourth place finish at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational.
 
Trinity Hernandez, posted a top 30 finish at the Sonoma State Fall Invitational, earning a share of 26th place overall. The sophomore lefty enters the Western Washington Fall Invitational with a 80.3 strokes per round average on the young season.
 
Kelly More (86.3 strokes through her first four rounds) is also part of head coach Heather Fegley's starting lineup. Freshman Brooke Pelletier, coming off a season-best score in the final round of the Sonoma State Fall Invitational, will also be in action for the 'Cats.
 
Chico State is the lone California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) team competing in the Western Washington Fall Invitational. Pacific West Conference teams Dominican, Holy Names, Hawaii Hilo, and Hawaii Pacific will be on hand, while the Great Northwest Athletic Conference will be represented by Saint Martin's, Simon Fraser, Montana State Billings, Northwest Nazarene, and host school Western Washington.
 
Rounding out the 16-team field will be Westminster College (Utah), Northeastern State (Oklahoma), University of British Columbia, University of Victoria, University of British Columbia-Okanagan, and University of the Fraser Valley.
 
The forecast for Bellingham calls for near-ideal playing conditions, with highs in the upper 60s and light winds. More importantly, there is no expected threat of rain on either Monday or Tuesday.
