ARCATA—Win number 250 will have to wait. The Chico State women's soccer team couldn't quite see out a 1-0 win Saturday at College Creek field on the campus of Humboldt State, surrendering the Lumberjacks' equalizer with 2:33 remaining in regulation before settling for 1-1 draw. With it, the Wildcats (ranked No. 5 in the West) wrapped up their non-conference slate with a record of 4-1-1. Meanwhile, Head Coach Kim Sutton's career wins mark remains at 249.
The Lumberjacks played very physically throughout the first half, but no one got a body on Sarah Emigh on her goal just prior to the break. Kylie Martinez angled her corner kick to the far post where Emigh snuck in behind a defender and headed it back across into the far netting for her second goal of the season. The assist was Martinez's first of the campaign.
The Wildcats enjoyed a 15-4 advantage in shots prior to the final five minutes. Chico State goalkeeper Emma Hoffman did well to poke one up and over the bar for her first save of the match with just over four minutes to play. Humboldt State found the equalizer a couple minutes later on a beautiful pass and volley from Baylee Groom to Clara Lenihan.
The teams went up and down the field in search of the winner for the remainder of regulation and overtime, but Hoffman made a pair of saves and Humboldt State's Alexis Aguilar finished with eight. Humboldt State is now 3-2-2. The teams will meet again in Chico in the regular-season finale for both squads on October 4.
Chico State opens CCAA action Friday at 7 p.m. against Cal State San Bernardino at University Soccer Stadium and hosts Cal State San Marcos at 2 p.m.
