Since opening in 1997, Nettleton Stadium has been the site of some of the most thrilling and memorable games in Chico State baseball history, with Wildcat fans treated to walk-off hits and sparkling pitching performances on an annual basis. Thanks to COVID-19, "The Nett" has been eerily quiet, with the virus cancelling half of the 2020 and all of the 2021 seasons. But come February, Nettleton Stadium will spring back to life as the 'Cats once again take the field, and the just-released 2022 schedule promises a season full of excitement.
Â
Chico State is not only slated to play 26 Wildcat home games this spring, but for the first time since 2008, will host the CCAA Tournament in mid-May. All told, the 'Cats will compete in 49 contests in 2022—nine pre-conference and 40 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) games—with the potential of additional games should the Wildcats qualify for postseason play.
Â
Chico State kicks off the 2022 campaign February 4–6 with a four-game series against non-conference opponent Saint Martin's. After a road series the following weekend against Fresno Pacific, the Wildcats are back at Nettleton Stadium February 16 to host an afternoon doubleheader against Simpson University.
Â
The 'Cats open CCAA play February 25–27 hosting Sonoma State for a four-game series. Cal State San Marcos visits The Nett for a four-game set March 11–13, with the Wildcats welcoming Cal State San Marcos to Chico March 25–27 for a four-game tilt.
Â
Chico State opens April on the road against Cal State LA, but will be home April 8–10 for a four-game series against Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Wildcats close out the month and usher in May with a four-game set against Cal State Monterey Bay April 29–May 1. The 'Cats will then wrap up regular season play May 5–7 with a four-game set in Hayward versus Cal State East Bay.
Â
If the Wildcats are among the CCAA teams with the six highest winning percentages at the conclusion of conference play, they will qualify for the May 11–14 CCAA Tournament, hosted by Chico State at Nettleton Stadium. The tournament winner will be awarded an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship Tournament.
Â
The Chico State baseball teams enters the 2022 campaign having reached postseason play in each of the last four full seasons, and nine times in the last 10. Dave Taylor, who is just 19 wins shy of 500 career victories as Wildcats' head coach, returns this spring for his 16th year at the helm.
